About

imageMy name is Marion. I am a French girl leaving in Belfast.I enjoy to crochet , knit, sew and sometimes, embroider and this is a diary of what I am making.

I had learned to crochet and knit with my mother and grandmothers when I was a kid but I forgot it all after a while. After moving to Belfast, I picked up on those crafts again. My husband is a sailor and he is away half the year. Crafts, and crocheting in particular, have been a way to keep my mind busy when he is at sea.

  4. Having spent 20 years as a sailor’s wife, I can truly sympathize! I began doing crafts with crochet to fill the hours, like you—and evolved to sewing, knitting, doll-making, playing with polyclay, and painting….so far! Good luck on your own journey of creativity.

Thank you for liking my little post. I have blogged professionally and personally for years but always about the exciting world of fashion. Now that my children have started families of their own, I find I want to write about something comforting. I am getting back to making things by hand and really enjoy it. I taught my daughters and some of them knit and crochet (I never could crochet). One of them, like you is an expat but she lives in Paris with her husband an little baby boy. I no longer work and find I like to do crafts to fill extra time. You should look into Irish Aran knits. Those are sweaters the women used to make their fishermen husbands. They are complicated but beautiful.

Thank you for the tips : I have look up at Irish Aran knits and it is truly beautiful. I am not advanced enough to knit one but it is something I can aspire to ! Have you knitted one yourself ?

That’s funny, I started one and my boyfriend (who is now my husband) asked for black yarn. I got one piece, the front done but it killed my eyes to knit black even back then. The pattern was 26 rows long so there was no memorizing it. I just decided to repurpose that yarn to a lovely long open front duster sweater for myself. That’s the thing, I never cry over ripping out stitches, rows, even whole projects. Haha. That yarn was so expensive I don’t mind using it in a new way! The Aran knits are not hard if you have a lot of time. Try some squares of patterns they really are beautiful. Just use light colors! Thank you again for liking my little blog, I plan to write in it a lot. Another post is about to publish😊

  17. Bonjour Marion,

      Marion
